Organised by IYARKAYAI NESI PUBLIC CHARITABLE TRUST

08 October 2025 | Pollachi–Valparai Road

With the permission of the Deputy Director, Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Pollachi Forest Division, and in the presence of the Pollachi Forest Range Officer, IYARKAYAI NESI PUBLIC CHARITABLE TRUST organised a Plastic Waste Cleanup Drive on 08 October 2025 along the Pollachi–Valparai Road.

Students from Akshaya College, Kinathukadavu, and Pollachi Municipal Higher Secondary School, along with volunteers and members of the Trust, actively participated in the cleanup campaign.

The programme was led by Mr. C. Srinivasa Prabhu, Plastic Eradication and Awareness Coordinator. The cleanup covered the stretch from the Aliyar Forest Check Post to Kavi Aruvi, during which approximately 500 kg of plastic waste and discarded liquor bottles were collected and removed from the roadside and surrounding forest areas.

Representatives of various social organisations, Forest Department officials, and forest guards also participated in the programme and extended their support for its smooth and effective conduct.

As part of the campaign, awareness was also created among tourists on the importance of responsible tourism and maintaining cleanliness in forest areas. Visitors were urged not to discard plastic, bottles, or other waste along the forest roads and to make proper use of the dustbins provided at the forest check post.

The initiative aimed to reduce plastic pollution, prevent waste from entering wildlife habitats, and promote collective responsibility towards forest conservation, wildlife protection, and preservation of the natural environment.
