World Sparrow Day Awareness Seminar
20 March 2026 | Velammal College of Engineering and Technology, Madurai
On 20 March 2026, IYARKAYAI NESI PUBLIC CHARITABLE TRUST organised a World Sparrow Day Awareness Seminar for the students of Velammal College of Engineering and Technology, Madurai, with the objective of creating awareness about sparrow conservation and the importance of protecting urban bird habitats.
The programme was led by Mr. A. Narasimha Mani, Snake Conservation and Awareness Coordinator, IYARKAYAI NESI PUBLIC CHARITABLE TRUST. The seminar highlighted the ecological significance of sparrows, the factors contributing to their declining population, and the importance of conserving suitable habitats and food and water sources for birds.
As part of the awareness programme, students were also encouraged to support the Trust’s summer conservation campaign, “Let’s Keep Water for Birds,” by placing small bowls of clean drinking water at their homes and educational institutions during the hot summer months.
The programme successfully promoted environmental awareness among students and encouraged them to take an active role in bird conservation, biodiversity protection and community-based environmental initiatives.
